TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa junior guard Pat Birt was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week Monday, after averaging 19.5 points to lead the Golden Hurricane to two wins last week, the league office announced Monday.
Birt, a native of Plano, Texas, scored 26 points at UCF and 13 points against Cincinnati to propel the Hurricane to important conference victories as it climbed to 10 wins in conference play and moved into a third-place tied in the league standings.
In Sunday's 75-67 win at UCF, Birt scored a game-high 26 points on 8-of-16 field goals and 4-of-8 3-pointers and added four rebounds. Prior to that weekend performance, he put up 13 points, making 6-of-7 free throws, to the Golden Hurricane to a big win over Cincinnati on Thursday. Overall, he shot a .455 3-point percentage and made 12-of-16 free throws (.750).
This is Birt's first American Athletic Conference Player of the Week award, and the third for Tulsa this season. James Woodard won the award on Nov. 16 and Shaquille Harrison won on Nov. 23.
The Golden Hurricane plays host to Temple at 6 p.m Tuesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
