Tulsa Cruises to 113-56 Exhibition Win over Missouri S&T

Tulsa, Okla. –– Corey Henderson's 21 points led 6 Tulsa players in double-figures as the Hurricane cruised to a 113-56 win over the Missouri S&T Miners Saturday afternoon in its second of two exhibition games at the Donald W. Reynolds Center.
Tulsa was sizzling from the field, converting 61-percent overall and 59-percent from 3-point range, knocking down 20-of-34 shots from beyond the arc. All 12 Tulsa players scored in the game and eight hit at least one three-pointer, while 11 of the 12 pulled down a rebound.
Behind Henderson's 21 points, Curran Scott and Geno Artison added 16 points apiece, while Jaleel Wheeler and Junior Etou scored 12 and DaQuan Jeffries 10 points. Freshman Elijah Joiner had team-highs of 11 rebounds and 7 assists. As a team, Tulsa dished out 25 assists, grabbed 52 rebounds and had 9 steals. The Hurricane held Missouri S&T to 30-percent from the field and 27-percent from 3-point range.
Tulsa improved to 66-2 overall in exhibition games and sored 100+ points for the 18th time in the preseason matchups. Wheeler's driving layup at the 4:59 mark pushed the Hurricane over the 100-point barrier for a 101-42 lead.
Leading by 31 at intermission, Tulsa took a 40-point lead on a Martins Igbanu free throw at the 14:08 mark to make the score 76-36. The Hurricane went ahead by 50 points at 88-38 on a Lawson Korita layup with 11:27 to play, and surpassed the 60-point plateau at the 4:16 mark when Artison knocked down a three-pointer for a 104-42 lead.
Tulsa's biggest lead of 65 points, 112-47, came with 1:38 left on the game clock when Artison converted on his 4th of 5 treys for the game
Tulsa made 6 of its first 9 shots and jumped out to a 17-4 lead with just over 4 minutes gone in the first half. The Hurricane increased the lead to 18 points, 27-9, on a Henderson three-pointer at the 12:12 mark. MS&T went on an 11-3 run to cut the Tulsa lead to 10 points, 30-20, with 10:01 left in the first half.
The Hurricane closed out the final 10 minutes of the half on a 31-9 run to take a 61-29 lead into intermission. During that stretch, Tulsa had runs of 9-0, taking a 30-20 lead to 39-20, and a 12-0 run to close out the half, increasing its lead from 20 to 32 points at halftime.
Tulsa converted 59-percent of its field goals and 58-percent from 3-point range, as the Hurricane knocked down 11-of-19 from long range, in the first 20 minutes.
In the first half, Tulsa got 12 points from Etou and Henderson Jr., while Jeffries scored 10 points. All seven Tulsa players that scored in the first half, converted on a 3-point basket.
Tulsa opens the regular season next Friday afternoon, Nov. 10, with a 12 p.m. tipoff against the Lamar Cardinals on Blackboards & Backboards Day, a special matinee game to attract local schools.
