FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Connor Noland passed for 124 yards and a touchdown in the first start of his career to lead Arkansas to a 23-0 win over visiting Tulsa on Saturday afternoon in front of 56,691 fans at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.
Â
Shamari Brooks led the Golden Hurricane (1-6) on offense with 91 yards rushing on 20 carries, while Corey Taylor II had 86 all-purpose yards (54 rushing, 32 receiving). In addition, Keylon Stokes had a career-high 74 yards on three catches (24.7 ypc).
Â
Zaven Collins paced the TU defense with a career-high 14 tackles and McKinley Whitfield added a season-best 11 stops to go along with three pass break-ups and an interception. The TU defense allowed just 327 yards of offense, its third-lowest allowed this season.
Â
Rakeem Boyd had 99 yards rushing and added another 14 through the air for the Razorbacks (2-6), who snapped a six-game losing streak. Arkansas racked up 196 yards on the ground with five ball carriers who each posted at least 20 yards rushing.
Â
Defense was the story early on for both teams as neither squad was able to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter.
Â
Whitfield put an end to the first two Arkansas drives, first with an interception before a pass break-up on the home squad's next possession. In all, he posted five tackles, four of which were solo stops, with the interception and two pass break-ups in the opening half.
Â
Tulsa twice had the ball inside the Razorbacks' 25-yard line during the opening quarter, but each drive stalled and ended in a missed field goal to keep the game scoreless.
Â
Arkansas broke through with a field goal of its own early in the second quarter and pushed its advantage to 10-0 on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Noland to Grayson Gunter just before halftime.
Â
The Razorbacks doubled their lead in the third quarter with another Connor Limpert field goal and a Maleek Williams 4-yard touchdown run that made it 20-0. The home squad added one more field goal with 8:19 left in the contest that provided the final 23-0 margin.
Â
Tulsa will return to American Athletic Conference play when it hosts Tulane (2-4, 1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 27. Kickoff from H.A. Chapman Stadium is set for 6 p.m.
