TULSA, Okla. — The University of Tulsa head men's basketball coach Frank Haith announced on Thursday that prep standout Isaiah Hill (Bakersfield, Calif./Liberty HS) signed a National Letter of Intent on the first day of the early signing period. Hill will join the Golden Hurricane for the 2019-20 season.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Isaiah to the Tulsa Family," Haith said. "We identified Isaiah early on as a priority in this recruiting class for a number of reasons. He is a natural leader that fits the culture of our program. He is a smart, savvy lead guard that can impact the game with his playmaking, scoring and desire to do whatever it takes to win. Isaiah is going to mesh extremely well with the student-athletes that we have returning next year and he is a tremendous fit for The University of Tulsa academically, athletically and he is a terrific young man. Tulsa fans are going to love watching and getting to know Isaiah Hill over the next four years."
Hill is a 6-foot point guard who earned a three-star rating from 247sports.com, which also lists him as the No. 25 point guard prospect in the 2019 class. The recruiting site has Hill as the highest rated high school recruit to sign with the Golden Hurricane since it began tracking the rankings in 2000.
Playing for head coach Jeff Hicks, Hill has earned two varsity letters in basketball and led Liberty High School to a 23-5 record as a junior last season. A versatile scorer with a potent outside shot, Hill averaged 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists per game on his way to first-team All-Area accolades from the Bakersfield Californian. He was a second-team All-Area honoree as a sophomore, which was his first season on the Liberty varsity squad.
Hill also was a member of the Compton Magic AAU program, which was widely considered the top AAU program after the 2018 summer circuit.
An all-around athlete and respected leader, Hill was the starting quarterback for Liberty's football team as a sophomore and junior before giving up the gridiron to focus on his basketball career. He was a second-team All-Area pick as a junior after earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore.
