SIGNING DAY CENTRAL
TULSA, Okla. –– In the second go-round of the early December signing period for college football, The University of Tulsa announced today that nine recruits have signed national letters-of-intent to continue their collegiate careers with the Golden Hurricane.
Among the newcomers, eight are from the prep ranks and one from junior college, while 5 are on the offensive side of the ball with 4 newcomers on defense. Two signees are from the city of Tulsa, while seven hail from the state of Texas. On the offensive end, the Hurricane signed three skill position players – two receivers and one running back – as well as two interior linemen. Defensively, the Hurricane added two linemen, one linebacker and one defensive back as a part of Tulsa's early signing class.
"I'm really exited about our 2019 recruiting class. We were able to fill some areas of need. We have added some speed, athleticism and length to our roster. We have some guys upfront that will be able to come in and help us right now. I'm excited about the journey these guys are getting ready to take," said head coach Philip Montgomery. "We have some more spots that we'll continue to fill in the month of January. We'll try to be really position specific in addressing the needs of our football team and making sure that we're getting the type of players that we need to help drive us forward and continue to take us to another level."
The JC transfer, defensive back Mike Garrett Jr., will enroll in classes in January and be eligible to participate in spring drills. The two Tulsa-area signees include Edison offensive lineman Chester Baah and Tulsa Union defensive tackle Darrias Murdock.
Tulsa's high school signees from the state of Texas include receivers Trey Collier (Kaufman HS) and La'Darrion Florez (Houston Clearbrook HS), running back Chris Lovick (Tomball Memorial HS) and lineman Jeremy Jones (Lewisville HS) on offense. The defensive side of the ball is represented by linebacker Bershard Glaspie (Mesquite Poteet HS) and end RaQuan Thompson (Killeen HS).
Tulsa expects to have additional signings on the February Signing date (Feb. 6, 2019).
