The Golden Hurricane will return eight letterwinners from last year's team, which went 19-12 and finished fourth in the American Athletic Conference. That group is led by point guard Sterling Taplin, who averaged a career-high 11.8 points and 4.4 assists per game a season ago. Tulsa also will get a boost inside with Jeriah Horne after he sat out the 2017-18 season following a transfer from Nebraska.
TU also returns DaQuan Jeffries (9.7 ppg/4.9 rpg), Martins Igbanu (9.4 ppg/5.1 rpg) and Curran Scott (5.9 ppg/2.1 rpg) along with Elijah Joiner, Darien Jackson and Alex Foree. In addition, the squad will welcome newcomers Chris Barnes, Simon Falokun, Peter Hewitt and Zeke Moore, while Reggie Jones will sit out the 2018-19 season after transferring from Western Michigan.
Meanwhile, Dayton went 14-17 under first-year head coach Anthony Grant in 2017-18. The squad finished ninth in the 14-team Atlantic 10 a season ago and will be led by forward Josh Cunningham, who was a third-team all-conference selection after he averaged 15.6 points and 8.4 rebounds for the Flyers.
Tulsa has won both previous meetings against Dayton, with the last matchup coming on March 20, 2003, in Spokane, Wash., when the Golden Hurricane topped the Flyers 84-71 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
