Tulsa Falls to #17/13 Minnesota and Texas State on Last Day of Baylor Invitational

WACO, Texas – The Tulsa Golden Hurricane completes the last day of the Baylor Invitational falling to #17/13 Minnesota 3-1 and Texas State 2-0.
Tulsa (8-6) will host the TU/OSU Tournament starting on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m. against Oregon and Drake at 5:00 p.m. at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
Game 1
Tulsa held a 1-0 lead against Minnesota going into the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Gophers hit a three-run home run to take a 3-1 lead.
Samantha Pochop (2-2) started of the Hurricane in the circle throwing 6.0 innings, giving up two hits and 3 runs while striking out 4.
Alexis Perry started the top of the second inning off with a walk for the Hurricane, moving to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Kylie Norwood. With two outs, Aubree Seaney walked; Kari Briggs pinch hit for Tulsa, driving in Perry from second base with a single. Seaney was thrown out at third base by the center fielder ending the inning.
With an out in the top of the 7th inning, Abby Jones doubled to right center; however, a strikeout and ground out ended the game for Tulsa.
Alexis Perry led the way for Tulsa from the plate going 2-2 including a walk. Kari Briggs was 1-1 and Abby Jones went 1-2 in the game.
Minnesota's Autumn Pease picked up her third win of the season, coming in to relieve starter Amber Fisher in the 5th inning.
Game 2
Chenise Delce drew the start against Texas State and went 7.0 innings, allowing 1 hit and 2 runs and striking out 7 in the process.
Texas State put runners on 1st and 3rd in the top of the 1st inning on two Hurricane errors, and the Bobcats scored their first run of the game on a fielder's choice.
With two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning, Tulsa used a single and an error to put the tying run on first base. However, the Hurricane fouled out to end the game.
In the top of the 2nd inning, the Bobcats used two hit batters and two walks to score their second run of the game.
Kyndal Pirtle started the bottom of the 6th inning off with a pinch hit single, but the Hurricane ended the inning on a double play.
For the first time this season, the Golden Hurricane take the diamond at Collins Family Softball Complex to face off against the Oregon Ducks on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2:30 p.m.
