Rachal Named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

TULSA, Okla. –– University of Tulsa senior Brandon Rachal was named the American Athletic Conference's Player of the Week for men's basketball, it was announced today.
 
Rachal led the Hurricane to a 2-0 record last week as TU defeated the No. 5-ranked Houston Cougars in the Reynolds Center and the Cincinnati Bearcats on the road.
 
Rachal averaged 22.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocks during the week leading the Hurricane to a 6-3 (3-1 in AAC) record. He combined to shoot 65-percent from the field, knocking down 13-of-20 field goals, 63-percent (5-8) from three and also converted 93-percent (14-15) from the free throw line.
 
The senior scored 20 points and grabbed 7 rebounds against the No. 5-ranked Cougars, making two free throws with 0.1 seconds left to give the Hurricane a 65-64 victory.
 
At the Fifth Third Arena against the Cincinnati Bearcats, Rachal notched his third double-double of the season scoring 25 points and pulling in a career-high 13 rebounds. Up two with 12.0 seconds left, Rachal made two consecutive free throws to give Tulsa a 70-66 win.
 
This is the first time that a Tulsa Hurricane player has been named Player of the Week this season. Austin Richie (Dec. 28) and Rachal (Nov. 30) have both been named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll earlier this season.
 
Tulsa is back in action Wednesday, Jan. 6 as the Hurricane take on the USF Bulls in a conference road matchup at 3:00 p.m. CT.
