Tulsa Football Gets in Five Practices Before Spring Break

TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa Golden Hurricane football team finished its fifth practice session on Thursday prior to take a week off for Spring Break.

"I'm pleased with the progress we've made through these first five practices. Obviously, we have some good key spots that are back, but we have a lot of young and new faces. I think they're learning and progressing really well," said Head Coach Philip Montgomery.

The Hurricane finished its first five spring practices with a nearly two-hour workout on Thursday at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

"Today, the defense put in a lot of different blitz packages and I thought they really executed those well. Our tempo was pretty good overall, but our energy level was great even dealing with the cold weather.

Montgomery has been pleased with his teams work through the first two weeks of practice.

"These first five practices we had the first two in helmets and next three days in pads, so we have 10 left. I think we've progressed well, we've stayed healthy and we're learning and that's what we need to do in spring ball," Montgomery said.

"In the final 10 sessions, we'll get into more game-like type situations whether we do it in practice or actual scrimmage situations and that will help us get a better idea of where we are," said Montgomery. "We'll want to see how well our guys are retaining things and we'll add some drill work to our special teams."

Tulsa will be back on the practice field on Tuesday, March 22. The Spring Game is set for Hall of Fame Weekend, April 8-9. The game will be played on Saturday, April 9, at 11:30 a.m.
