TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa added four-year transfer Brandon Betson and junior college transfer Bryant Selebangue to the Golden Hurricane basketball roster, Head Coach Eric Konkol announced today.

Betson, a 6'1" guard, is transferring from Chicago State, where he earned second-team all-Western Athletic Conference honors last season. Selebangue, who was also an all-league selection in 2021-22, is a 6'9" forward from Florida SouthWestern State College. Betson will have two years of eligibility remaining, while Selebangue will have three years left to play.

"I'm super excited about these two guys. We feel like these guys check a lot of boxes in things that we're looking for," said Konkol.

Betson led Chicago State in scoring with a 14.2 average and assists at 2.8 per game, while also pulling down 2.4 rebounds. In 32 games, Betson shot 37 percent from 3-point range and 83.6 percent from the free throw line.

"In Brandon we wanted to find another guard who could get downhill and get to the paint." Konkol said. "Someone who could score but also create for other guys. He can do those things. He's a dynamic 3-point shooter. He shot 37 percent from three last season at Chicago State. He's also a good passer. We feel like he fits very well in the way we want to play."

A native of Hercules, California, Betson led the team in three-point field goals made (79), attempted (213) and three-point field goal percentage (.371). He led the team in assists 18 times and scoring in 12 games, while eclipsing the 20-point mark six times and had 27 double-figure scoring games.

Betson converted two game-winning scores on last-second, last-possession opportunities during the 2021-22 campaign. As time was winding down in two league games, Betson knocked down a pull-up jumper to beat California Baptist and hit a driving layup to deliver one of college basketball's biggest upsets of the season against New Mexico State

Betson spent the previous season at Daytona State, where he averaged a team-best 17.3 points and 3.3 assists, while connecting on 37.3 percent from 3-point range and 84 percent from the free throw line to earn first-team all-conference honors.

Selebangue helped lead Florida SouthWestern State to a 24-6 record this past season as he averaged a double-double with 12.8 points and 10.1 rebounds in 30 games. He shot 69 percent from the field, while totaling 23 double-figure scoring games and 17 double-digit rebounding games.

"With Bryant we needed a versatile forward, frontcourt guy who can guard multiple positions," Konkol said. "He's athletic and he can move his feet side to side. We think he's going to have the ability, as he develops, to stretch the floor.

"He's good with both hands around the basket and attacking the rim. He runs hard. Most of all, the thing we're excited about with Bryant is his ability to rebound. He averaged a double-double this past year at Florida SouthWestern, in a very good junior college league. That rebounding translates, and we're looking forward to that."

Selebangue had season-highs of 25 points vs. Illinois State and 18 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards, against Hillsborough this past year. He also blocked a season-high four shots in three games and had a season-best four steals.

In the previous year, Selebangue spent his freshman season at Hutchinson Community College, where he averaged 6.6 points 4.4 rebounds per game and helped lead the Blue Dragons to the NJCAA National Tournament.

The signing of Betson and Selebangue brings the total number of the 2022 signing class to five.
