TULSA, Okla. –
Tulsa scored on six of its first seven possessions and cruised to a 54-17 victory over Jacksonville State Saturday night in front of 17,311 fans at H.A. Chapman Stadium.

Tulsa improved to 2-1 on the year, while JAX State suffered their first loss dropping to 3-1 on the season.

The Hurricane put up its most points since the 2016 Independence Bowl game with 54 points against the Gamecocks. Tulsa amassed 621 total yards, including 457 passing and 164 yards on the ground.

Davis Brin had his second 400-yard passing game this season with 424 yards and added a career-best four passing touchdowns for the second straight week. Brin found two receivers for over 100 yards – Keylon Stokes with 153 yards and JC Santana with 137 yards – and four used different targets for touchdowns – Stokes, Santana, Isaiah Epps and Jordan Ford.

Tulsa's defense held JAX State to 295 total yards, 161 yards under its season average and the 17 points was 20 points under their average. The Hurricane also recovered two fumbles and had one interception on the night for a season-high in the takeaway department.

The Hurricane took a 40-3 lead into halftime, but Jacksonville opened the third period with a 75-yard 12-play scoring drive that made the score 40-10. Tulsa added one touchdown in each of the final two periods and the Gamecocks added seven points in the final quarter.

In the first half, Tulsa scored on all but two possessions while holding a time advantage of 18:57 to 11:03. The Hurricane amassed 431 total yards in the first 30 minutes as Brin had already thrown for 373 yards, completing 25-of-32 in the first half.

Tulsa took the game's opening kickoff 75 yards in 14 plays as Steven Anderson ran in from four yards out for the score and his third straight game with a touchdown run.

The Hurricane pinned JAX State inside the five-yard line and scored a safety when a bad snap went out of the end zone. Tulsa took the kickoff and marched 49 yards in six plays and settled for a 44-yard Zack Long field goal for a 12-0 lead

Tulsa scored on its next two possessions to take a 26-0 lead with 8:27 remaining in the first half.

Anderson added his second touchdown run of the game, another four-yard run, to cap a 62-yard, eight-play drive at the 11:08 mark for a 19-0 lead. On Tulsa's next possession, Brin connected with Jordan Ford on a seven-yard pass to cap a 72-yard, five-play drive that took just 1:48 off the clock to put the Hurricane ahead 26-0 at the 8:27 mark of the second quarter.

Brin struck again by hitting Santana on a 31-yard pass to cap a 64-yard, six-play drive for a 33-0 lead with 5:04 left before halftime.

Jacksonville State responded with a 64-yard, six-play drive and was held to a 46-yard field goal. But, Tulsa wasted little time, just 37 seconds, to go 79 yards in three plays as Brin hit Epps on a 17-yard strike for the score and a 40-3 lead with just 1:23 left on the first-half clock.

Tulsa will be on the road next week to face the Ole Miss Rebels of the Southeastern Conference. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. (CT) and will be aired on the SEC Network.

The Hurricane returns to H.A. Chapman Stadium to begin American Athletic Conference play against defending champion Cincinnati on Saturday, Oct. 1. The game time will be announced Monday.
