GREENVILLE, N.C. – The University of Tulsa softball is set to close the regular season on the road for a conference matchup with East Carolina in Max R. Joyner Family Stadium this weekend.
Â
The series will start with a 4 p.m. first pitch on Friday. Saturday's game two is set for one in the afternoon and Sunday's finale is an early one as Tulsa and the Pirates are scheduled to begin at 10 in the morning. All three games will air on ESPN+.
Â
The Golden Hurricane enters the weekend with a 20-27 record, 6-9 in The American. Tulsa battled No. 1 Oklahoma in the midweek, giving the nation's top-ranked team quite a fight before the Sooners pulled away with a grand slam in the top of the seventh to win 6-0. Â
Â
Despite the loss, Kylee Nash (9-13) was fantastic in the circle. The junior hurler tossed 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits. Despite no strikeouts, Nash limited the powerful Sooners lineup, allowing no extra base hits in the ballgame.
Â
East Carolina is 27-24 heading into its final series of the regular season, but the Pirates are just 3-12 in conference play. ECU won its series against Memphis, taking two of three, and won a game off Houston. The Pirates had a bye week in conference play over the weekend and instead played a doubleheader with NC State on Saturday, losing 4-2 in the first game before bouncing back to win 4-1.
Â
Tulsa has largely dominated the series against ECU, enjoying a 37-13 record against the Pirates, including winning 17-of-26 matchups in Greenville. The Hurricane has won seven straight in the series and 23 of the past 25 games against East Carolina.
Â
With her two-run home run on Saturday, Haley Morgan joined Claira Skaggs and Rylee Keith with five homers on the season. The center fielder is batting .394 to lead the team and sit third in the conference. She's driven in 25 runs, second best on the team, and leads the Golden Hurricane with 41 runs scored. Imani Edwards and MacKenzie Denson join Morgan in hitting above .300 for the season as the pair hit .378 and .339, respectively.
Â
In conference play, Morgan and Edwards have been phenomenal. Both are hitting well above .400 and have higher slugging percentages and on-base percentages as well. Also stepping up is the senior Keith, who has four home runs in league play with a team-high 11 RBI. Bearpaw picked up her 11th RBI of conference play against Wichita State, giving her a team-leading 30 on the season.
Â
Maura Moore brings a 3.09 ERA into the week's action. She has 11 complete games and five shutouts in 2023. The sophomore has fanned 100 batters while holding opponents to a .241 batting average, both stats top the team.
