TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball program added Salt Lake Community College transfer Jared Garcia to the 2023-24 roster, head coach Eric Konkol announced today.

Garcia, from Houston, Texas, joins the Golden Hurricane following a season at SLCC and has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6'8" forward played in 32 games and made 19 starts in his lone season with the Bruins. He averaged 11.8 points and 6.8 rebounds in 20.9 minutes per game with shooting clips of 55.8 percent from the field, 42.9 from 3-point range and 86.7 from the charity stripe.

Last season, Garcia helped SLCC to a 29-5 record and an appearance at the NJCAA Nationals. Over the final 18 games of the season, he averaged 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. He recorded a season-high 25 points, including a season-best six 3-pointers, against Snow College on Feb. 9.

"We are thrilled Jared is joining us here at The University of Tulsa," Konkol said. "He is a versatile forward with size, skill and experience, and he was one of the most efficient players in junior college basketball last season.  Jared can attack the basket, shoot the three and guard multiple positions.  He competed at a high-level last season under Coach Kyle Taylor at Salt Lake Community College and his team advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament.  We are very happy to welcome Jared to the Tulsa Family."

Prior to joining SLCC, Garcia started his career at Charlotte, where he played two seasons. In two seasons, he made 40 appearances and averaged 2.9 points and 1.9 rebounds in 8.8 minutes per contest. He collected a double-double at Marshall his freshman season, recording 14 points and 11 rebounds, both highs for his time at Charlotte.

Garcia had a fantastic prep career at St. Thomas More in Connecticut, where he was ranked No. 20 in the New England Top 100 for the Class of 2020 by the New England Recruiting Board. He was also ranked the 79th best small forward in the nation by 247Sports.

In his prep career, Garcia scored 1,276 points and grabbed 656 rebounds. In his junior season at St. Thomas More, he averaged 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists while earning second-team All-New England Prep School Athletic Conference honors.

Tulsa's 2023-24 roster now totals 11 student-athletes with three scholarships still available.
