Cardell Williams Named to AAC’s Weekly Honor Roll

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Tulsa redshirt freshman quarterback Cardell Williams was named to the American Athletic Conference's weekly Honor Roll for the first week of the 2023 football season, the league office announced on Monday.
Williams made his college debut in a reserve role against the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lions last Thursday. He entered his first career game in the 1st quarter after an injury to starter Braylon Braxton and led Tulsa to a 42-7 victory.
He proceeded to tie a freshman record for touchdown passes with three en route to completing 13-of-14 passes for 233 yards. He completed his first 13 passes in the contest.
Williams also rushed for a 3-yard touchdown for Tulsa's first score of the game, making it 7-7 after the PAT at the 10:21 mark of the 2nd quarter. Williams completed 9-of-9 passes for 169 yards and three TDs in the first half to give Tulsa a 28-7 lead. In the final 7:18 of the 2nd quarter he threw all three of his TD passes, covering 80, 15 and 19 yards.
