TU Athletic Teams Turn in Impressive Fall Academic Performance

TULSA, Okla. –– As the spring semester gets underway next week, Tulsa student-athletes will begin the new year after a strong academic fall semester.
The overall student-athlete fall term grade point average was a combined 3.28. A total of 281 Golden Hurricane student-athletes ended the fall semester with a 3.0 GPA or better, including 72 with a 4.0 GPA.
Fifteen of Tulsa's 17 athletic teams reached at least a 3.00 GPA during the fall semester. Tulsa teams turning in a 3.0 or better grade point average in the fall included: (women) basketball, golf, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball; (men) cross country, football, soccer, tennis and track & field.
The women's tennis team's 3.73 was the highest overall grade point average, while the 3.51 GPA for men's soccer was the highest male sport GPA. The rowing team had 14 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
TU students will begin the spring semester on Tuesday, January 16.
In addition, the Division 1A Faculty Athletics Representatives (FAR) Board announced the recipients of the 2023 1A FAR Academic Excellence Awards. The award is given annually to student-athletes who graduate with a cumulative GPA of 3.80 or above and have participated in at least two years of NCAA intercollegiate athletics at an FBS institution.
Tulsa was represented on the list by 12 recipients, including Lian Benedejcic (women's tennis, Kayley Cassaday (volleyball), Brianna Hays (women's cross country), Chloe Hershenow (women's cross country/track & field), Gilles Kuhler (men's soccer), Chloe McEachern (women's track & field), Kinga Parrish (women's cross country/track & field), Kody Pearson (men's tennis), Austin Schweinert (men's soccer), Katherine Stenning (rowing), Karen Undset (rowing) and Keely Vallejo (women's cross country).
