Ian Smikle Named The American Freshman of the Week

Matt Reed named to weekly honor roll
TULSA, Okla. – University of Tulsa forward Ian Smikle was named The American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week for his performance in Tulsa's win over Mississippi Valley State, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Smikle, recorded nine points, six rebounds and an assist in 21 minutes of action, shooting 60 percent from the floor in Tulsa's 93-48 win. Tulsa led wire-to-wire and Smikle got the Hurricane offense going with the team's first five points of the first game.
The freshman leads the Hurricane on the glass this season, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game to go with his 4.8 points a contest. He is the first Tulsa player to win a weekly award this season.
Matt Reed was named to the conference's weekly honor roll after just missing out on a double-double against the Delta Devils. Reed paced Tulsa with a career-high 15 points and season-best nine rebounds. The sophomore forward knocked down four of his five attempts from 3-point range (80 percent) and four of his rebounds led to second chance opportunities.
The Golden Hurricane will return to action after Christmas against Southwestern Christian on Saturday in the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Tipoff for the nonconference finale is set for 4 p.m. and will air on ESPN+.
