BOCA RATON, Fla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team could not slow down the No. 20 Florida Atlantic Owls as the Golden Hurricane fell 102-70 in the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena on Saturday evening.

Tulsa (12-9, 3-6 The American) had an early lead, but the Owls (18-4, 8-1 The American) took control midway through the first half and never looked back.

Haggerty paced Tulsa with 25 points in the ballgame. 20 of his points came in the second half after scoring five in the first. Cobe Williams (16) and Tyshawn Archie (11) joined Haggerty in double figure scoring. Carlous Williams led Tulsa on the glass with six rebounds to go with his six points. FAU had five players score in double figures, led by Johnell Davis with 24. Alijah Martin and Vladislav Goldin each added 18.

Leading by 13 at the half, the Owls hit 9-of-10 from the floor to start the second half to start to pull away. Tulsa cooled to 43 percent after making nine of its first 14 shots and couldn't keep up with the pace of the Owls, who shot 58 percent from the floor in the second stanza.

Tulsa could not get the 3-ball working on Saturday, hitting just 4-of-28 attempts for a season low 14.3 percent from beyond the arc. From the floor, the Hurricane was outshot 53-37 percent, while the hosts connected on 10 3-pointers in its win.

TU turned 11 FAU turnovers into 11 points, while the Owls scored 14 on Tulsa's 10 turnovers. The Owls had a 40-36 advantage in points in the paint and 14-9 in second chance points after outrebounding the Hurricane 43-35, despite a 10-7 TU advantage in offensive boards.  The largest discrepancy was in fastbreak points, where Florida Atlantic enjoyed a 29-8 difference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
IN THE FIRST HALF . . .
After each team turned it over once, Garcia opened the scoring with a 3-pointer off an assist from Haggerty. It would serve as Tulsa's only field goal in the opening four minutes. However, Tulsa's defense forced misses and turnovers from the Owls, and Florida Atlantic's only scoring came on two dunks. After Haggerty split a pair of free throws, the score was 4-4 at the under 16 timeout.

Cobe Williams ended the drought with a pullup jumper at 15:33 to put Tulsa back up two. After FAU tied it, Haggerty scored consecutive baskets to give Tulsa a four-point lead.

After Carlous Williams connected on a jumper to put Tulsa up 14-13 at the 9:37 mark, Florida Atlantic went on an 18-1 run spanning the next 4:53 to take a 32-15 lead. Isaiah Barnes connected on a layup to end the run.

The Hurricane would close the half outscoring FAU 12-8 to go into the break down 40-27. Tulsa was held to 30 percent shooting in the half, while Florida Atlantic connected at a 48 percent clip. The Hurricane especially had trouble finding the basket from deep, hitting 2-of-15 attempts, while Florida Atlantic made six 3-pointers on 16 tries.

IN THE SECOND HALF . . .
The Hurricane came out hotter than the first half, connecting on nine of its first 14 shots. The problem was, FAU was equal to the task, knocking down 9-of-10, including a 3-pointer and six free throws. This allowed FAU to extend its advantage to 65-45 with 13 minutes to play.

The Owls extended the lead to 81-57 at the under eight timeout. Haggerty accounted for 18 of Tulsa's 30 second half points in the first 12 minutes, while Cobe Williams added nine. A 3-pointer from Archie was the only Tulsa scorer to that point.

FAU outscored Tulsa 18-7 over the next 3:42 to take its largest lead of the night, 99-64. After six straight from Tulsa, the Owls crossed the 100-point threshold with a dunk with just under 1:54 to play.

Haggerty finished the half with 20 points, while Cobe Williams scored 14.
