Tulsa Falls 5-2 in Game Two to ECU

TULSA, Okla. – The Golden Hurricane struggled to put a string of hits together until it was too late in a 5-2 loss to East Carolina in game two of the series at the Collins Family Softball Complex on Saturday afternoon.

Tulsa (26-14, 11-6 The American) recorded eight hits, but only had multiple hits in an inning in the sixth and left nine on-base in the loss. East Carolina (30-13, 6-11 The American) scored runs in the second, third and sixth to secure the win.

Anneca Anderson (7-4) took the loss. The freshman tossed 3.2 innings and allowed three runs on two hits and four walks. She struck out eight. Kylee Nash came on in relief and gave up two runs on five hits in 3.1 innings of work. Nash struck out eight opponents.

The Hurricane did get some hits, with Abby Jones, Kailyn Bearpaw and Celeste Wood all doubled. Bearpaw drove in a run and later came around to score. Kennedy Cramer had the other RBI. Jones was the lone multi-hit game for Tulsa.

The Pirates scored the game's first run in similar fashion to Friday with a solo home run. Where game one's opened the game, this came with two outs in the second inning.

ECU extended its lead in the second as a pair of walks with one out proved costly. The next batter doubled in a run and then a wild pitch gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

The score would remain that until the top of the sixth. The Pirates did their damage with two outs, starting with a single up the middle from Kanisha Anderson. The next batter singled to right and Kailyn Bearpaw came up firing for third tried to go first to third. The ball hit her in the arm and went to the wall, allowing Anderson to score. A double brought in another run and the Pirates lead was 5-0.

Tulsa had a two-out rally of its own in the bottom of the frame. Maci Cole singled and then got to second on a wild pitch. Kailyn Bearpaw smashed a line drive double off the wall in left to get Tulsa on the board. Celeste Wood hit a high pop up that gave trouble to the Pirates infield due to strong winds. It went from foul to fair territory and dropped safely as Wood ended up with an infield double. Bearpaw was forced to stay at third. Kennedy Cramer picked up an RBI with an infield single to short to score Bearpaw and make the score 5-2.

MacKenzie Denson stepped in representing the tying run. She hit a line drive to center that dove fast, but the center fielder made a nice diving grab to save at least one run. That would be Tulsa's last real chance as the game ended 5-2.
