TULSA, Okla. –– The Golden Hurricane men's basketball program officially announced the additions of true freshman point guard Jaye Nash and transfer guard Braeden Carrington to the 2024-25 roster, Head Coach Eric Konkol announced today.
The signings of Nash and Carrington bring Tulsa's newcomers for the upcoming season to three. The pair join true freshman big man Ian Smikle, who signed his national letter-of-intent in early November.
"We're happy to welcome Braden and Jaye to our Tulsa basketball family. In looking at our needs for current year we were looking for versatile playmaking guards that can defend the basketball and both these guys fill that need," said Konkol.
The 6'2" Nash comes to Tulsa from McEachern High School in Powder Springs, Ga., where he spent his senior season. Nash played his first three prep seasons in his hometown of Memphis, Tenn. for Briarcrest Christian School.
Nash was a four-star ESPN/Rivals recruit and ranked as the 110th overall player in the nation and a top 20 point guard. He totaled more than 1,000 points and 700 assists while starting every game of his four-year high school career.
As a senior, Nash averaged 12.8 points, 7.5 assists and four rebounds, while earning Class 7A all-state honors in the state of Georgia. He also headlined the state's first-team all-defensive team according to PrepHoops. Before moving to McEachern High School for his senior season, Nash was an all-state and all-region selection in his first three seasons at Briarcrest Christian School in Memphis.
"Jaye is a point guard with great vision, energy and competitiveness. He plays with tremendous enthusiasm and intensity and loves to make his teammate better," Konkol said. "Jaye has great strength and size at the guard position and we really like his ability to pressure the basketball on the defensive end."
Nash finished his career at Briarcrest as the school's all-time assists leader, breaking the previous record set by Tennessee star and NBA draft pick Kennedy Chandler, and Nash also set the school's single-season assists mark. He had a career-high 17 assists against Clarksville Academy his sophomore season and established the McEachern single-game record with 14 assists in the 2023-24 campaign.
A 6'4" Minnesota transfer, Carrington played in 50 games and had 10 starts in two seasons with the Gophers. He scored at a 5.1 clip and pulled down 3.4 rebounds in 20.4 minutes of playing time.
"Braeden brings great experience from the Big 10 Conference. He's a guy who can pay multiple guard spots and uses his physicality to defend multiple positions on the floor. He has also demonstrated his ability to stretch the defense with three point-shooting and attacking the basket," said Konkol.
Carrington averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds with a season-high of 18 points at Iowa and a career-best 13 rebounds in a win over Bethune-Cookman last year. As a freshman, he averaged 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds while tallying a career-high 20 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Carrington had nine points and six rebounds in his first Big Ten collegiate game against Purdue.
Named Minnesota's Mr. Basketball as a prep senior, Carrington led his Park Center High School team to a 31-1 record and the Class 4A state title in 2022, the first-ever state title in program history. He averaged 17.8 points per game his senior season and 18.1 points as a junior.
Carrington was ranked as the 140th recruit nationally in the 2022 class.
