TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball program officially signed James Madison transfer forward Justin Amadi to the 2024-25 roster, Golden Hurricane head coach Eric Konkol announced this afternoon.

The 6-7 redshirt junior missed the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign due to a lower body injury and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He becomes the fifth newcomer to the 2024-25 Tulsa roster.

"We're really excited about Justin joining us," Konkol said. "He has a very energetic way that he plays with his physicality and intensity. You look at his experience with offensive rebounding, finishing around the basket and shooting percentages at James Madison – he's been a very efficient player. One of the things we really liked was his versatility in guarding. We feel like he can guard almost any position on the floor at certain times. He has long arms and a great motor."

A 3-star transfer according to EvanMiya, Amadi amassed 624 points and 375 rebounds in his three seasons at JMU. The Greenville, S.C. native appeared in 82 games with 66 starts, averaging 22.1 minutes per game. The forward was an efficient shooter, knocking down a school career record 64.9 percent of his field goal attempts for the Dukes on 251-of-387 shooting.

In his 2022-23 season, he was one of only two players to appear in all 33 games, averaging 4.9 points on 61.3 percent shooting, the eighth-best single-season mark in program history. He also pulled down 3.6 rebounds. As a redshirt freshman, he appeared and started all 29 contests. Amadi recorded the school's fifth-best shooting season, knocking down 64.2 percent of his attempts. He led the team in rebounds (5.4), steals (38) and field goal percentage, and was second in scoring (9.7), field goals (113), blocks (10) and minutes (25.5).

Amadi was a Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team selection in 2020-21, making 16 starts in 20 appearances. In his first collegiate season, Amadi averaged 9.1 points and 5.0 rebounds and set an all-time individual record at JMU by shooting 69.5 percent on the season.

Prior to his collegiate career, Amadi attended Dorman High School in Roebuck, S.C. He was an efficient shooter even then, knocking down 74 percent of his shots his senior year to help the Cavaliers capture a 5A State title. He was named to the All-State and All-Region teams while averaging 14 points and seven rebounds. 247Sports ranked Amadi as the 85th best power forward coming out of high school and fifth-best in South Carolina.
