TULSA, Okla. –– The University of Tulsa men's basketball team today released its complete 2024-25 schedule.
Fans will have 18 opportunities to catch the Golden Hurricane in the Donald W. Reynolds Center this season with a number of regional matchups in surrounding states.
"I'm excited to learn about our team every step of the way," Tulsa head coach Eric Konkol said. "From the exhibition against Missouri S&T to progressing to going on the road for the first time. We have games against Missouri State right up the road, a longstanding rival. We travel up to Chicago to play a Loyola Chicago team that was at the top of their league last year. We have a home game against Little Rock, who also was the top of their league.
"Then we have an opportunity to play in Jacksonville in back-to-back games that mimics a conference tournament setting. We get to go back down there to play a UCF Big 12 team in another neutral site. So, we're going to get to go up against a number of teams who have experience a lot of success in recent history and figure out where we're at. We were very strategic, it took some time to put together, but we're happy with the end result."
Tulsa hosts Missouri S&T in an exhibition game on October 29 before officially opening Konkol's third season in charge with Northeastern State in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Nov. 4.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff visits on Nov. 9, followed by the 59th Mayor's Cup when Oral Roberts comes to the Reynolds Center on Nov. 13.
The Hurricane goes on the road for the first time to face a longtime opponent in Missouri State on the 16th before returning home to play Little Rock on the 20th. Both games against these opponents went down to the wire last season. Tulsa knocked off Missouri State but came up just short in overtime to Little Rock.
Tulsa will head north to Chicago on Nov. 23 to face Atlantic-10 co-regular season champions Loyola Chicago. The Ramblers earned an NIT bid a year ago after finishing 23-10 (15-3 A-10). This is the third year in a row TU and Loyola Chicago will meet and Tulsa has won the previous two matchups by a combined 30 points.
Thanksgiving week, the Hurricane will make its first trip to Florida to take part in the Jacksonville Classic. TU will play a pair of games in the multi-team event, with opponents to be announced at a later date.
TU opens December with a home game against another in-state opponent in Oklahoma State on the 4th.
"I've always believed playing in-state games is an important thing for basketball within the state, but also a lot of fun for the fanbases," Konkol said. "We are one of just four Division I teams in Oklahoma. This was something we had scheduled when we first arrived. We played a game in Stillwater and then in Oklahoma City and now we're playing in Tulsa.
"We have a lot of alumni in the city, as does Oklahoma State. Giving both fanbases a chance to enjoy a game here in the Reynolds Center is a great opportunity."
After hosting Southern University on the 7th, the Hurricane will fly to Sunrise, Fla. to take on former conference foe UCF at the Orange Bowl Classic. Tulsa will wrap up the nonconference slate with home matchups against Mississippi Valley State (Dec. 21) and Southwestern Christian (Dec. 28).
Ring in the New Year in the Reynolds Center when Tulsa welcomes Rice to open the American Athletic Conference play on New Year's Day. It tips-off an 18-game conference slate. Four teams from The American earned postseason bids a year ago. FAU and UAB competed in the NCAA Tournament, while North Texas and South Florida played in the NIT.
"Looking at all the teams, looking at the players that were signed into the league last year, it's going to be another tremendous year in the league," Konkol said. "Fully expect to be a league that produces multiple bids in the NCAA Tournament. There are a number of teams who can compete for a conference championship. As you look across the schedule, every game poses challenges. It should be another great home slate for our fans to watch. But also, many challenging away games and a variety of ways for our fans to follow the team on the road."
Tulsa will follow with a short two-game road trip at conference tournament champions UAB (Jan. 4) and at UTSA (Jan. 7) before returning home to face Charlotte (Jan. 11).
The Golden Hurricane then makes its third trip to Florida, this time to Tampa, to face reigning regular season conference champions South Florida (Jan. 18). The Bulls and TU split the series a season ago.
TU closes the first month of 2025 with a three-game homestand, the largest since opening the season with three games in a row at home. The Hurricane will host ECU on the 21st. Tulsa and Wichita State will continue their longstanding rivalry on Jan. 26 before UAB and TU meet for the second time (Jan. 29).
February starts with a pair of tough road matchups. First, Tulsa heads to New Orleans to face Tulane (Feb. 2). Then, the Hurricane makes its way to Memphis for the first time since the 2021-22 season (Feb. 5).
Tulsa will alternate game locations over the following week, hosting FAU (Feb. 8), traveling to Temple (Feb. 12) and then welcoming UTSA (Feb. 15) to finish the season series against the Roadrunners. The Hurricane will then go on the road to play North Texas (Feb. 19), the first game in Denton since the Mean Green joined the conference. Tulsa will finish its Texas road swing with a matchup at Rice (Feb. 22).
After Tulsa has a week off, the Hurricane opens the final month of the regular season with a pair of home games against Tulane (March 1) and Temple (March 4). TU finishes the 2024-25 conference slate against the rival Shockers on March 9.
The American Men's Basketball Championship will run from March 12-16 inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. All tip times and television information for conference games will be released at a later date.
