Women's Soccer Concludes Season in American Championship Quarterfinal

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. — The University of Tulsa fell to Rice University 1-0 on Monday at in the American Women's Soccer Quarterfinal match at Premier Sports Campus, despite outshooting the Owls with 19 attempts to 14.
This marked the second year in a row that Tulsa faced the same opponent as their final regular season match in the American Championship Quarterfinals, and fell to them despite not losing the regular season game.
The game between the Golden Hurricane and Rice started with both teams fielding strong defensive performances. Tulsa's Natalie Hernandez made an early attempt in the 8th minute, but it was saved by Rice goalkeeper Kirsten Ruf. Tulsa's Hannah Chance had a notable presence with shots in the 11th and 21st minutes, both saved by Ruf, maintaining the Owls' defensive stand. Rice countered with several shots on goal, including attempts by Piper Biziorek and Laurel Kelley, but Tulsa's goalkeeper Tatum Sanders kept the score level with multiple saves. Blaine Schutte for Tulsa had a series of shots late in the half, yet Ruf was resolute in goal, keeping the match scoreless as the first half concluded. Schutte's six shots in this game brought her to 50 on the season, highlighting her offensive contributions.
Rice secured a narrow victory with a 1-0 scoreline in the second half. Eileen Albers scored the decisive goal in the 58th minute, assisted by Jadyn Jaeger. The Golden Hurricane's offensive attempts included multiple shots on goal, notably from Kaylyn Simmons and Jordan Frederick, but were consistently thwarted by Ruf. Simmons went three-for-three on shots on goal, marking her most accurate performance of the season. Meanwhile, Frederick's four shots in the match brought her tally to 46 for the season. Despite several offensive efforts and a late corner kick in the 84th minute, the team from Tulsa was unable to equalize by the end of regulation. Four Golden Hurricane players had three or more shots, contributing to the team's strong offensive push.
