ABILENE, Texas — Tulsa (2-1-0) was edged out by Abilene Christian (2-1-0) in a 1-0 loss Thursday evening at Elmer Gray Stadium in Abilene, Texas. ACU ties up the all-time series 1-1.
Abilene Christian took an early lead against the Golden Hurricane in the first half with a goal by Abby Smith in the 6th minute. Tulsa's defense, led by goalie Tatum Sanders, made crucial saves, including stopping shots by Smith and Hannah Vetromile to keep the game within reach. Despite Tulsa's attempts to equalize with shots from Blaine Schutte, Maggie SymSmith, Hannah Chance, and Jordan Frederick, all of which missed the target or were saved, the half ended with Abilene Christian ahead 1-0.
In the second half, Tulsa pressed the Wildcats' defense with a total of 12 shots, but ACU's goalkeeper Bella Medrano was crucial, making multiple saves to maintain the lead. Frederick and Schutte each had several attempts, but Medrano and the defense were able to keep them at bay. Despite Tulsa's offensive efforts, the match ended with a scoreless second half, and Abilene Christian ran away with a 1-0 victory.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 2-1-0 on the season. The loss left the Golden Hurricane at 2-1-0.
