Lawal Earns Second American Conference Freshman of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas — For the second time this season, Jaylen Lawal was named the American Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Lawal had a monster performance in Tulsa's 49-point victory over Rice on Wednesday. The freshman scored a career-high 25 points, the most by a freshman this season in the American Conference. He scored 21 of his 25 points in the second half, matching Rice's offensive output over the final 20 minutes of action.
He did it efficiently, going 9-of-12 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range. Lawal became the first freshman this season with at least 25 points, five made three-pointers, and shot .750 percent from the field in a game. The Plano native is the only freshman in the American Conference with multiple 20-point games this season and one of just 63 freshman to do so in the country.
Tulsa returns to the court to face South Florida on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Reynolds Center.
