Wilson Qualifiers for U.S. Amateur

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa men's golfer Matthew Wilson qualified for the United States Amateur Championship on Wednesday after earning a runner-up finish at U.S. Amateur Final Qualifying at Aurora Country Club.

Wilson secured his place in the championship field after carding a 5-under-par 67 in the 18-hole qualifier. The 126th U.S. Amateur Championship will be contested Aug. 10-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

Wilson faced an early challenge, sitting at 1-over through six holes before recording back-to-back birdies on Nos. 7 and 8. He closed the front nine with a par on the ninth hole to make the turn at 1-under.

He continued his strong play on the back nine, birdieing three of his first four holes after the turn. Following a par on the 200-yard, par-3 14th hole, Wilson finished his round in impressive fashion, carding three birdies over his final four holes.

Wilson posted a 4-under-par 32 on the back nine and finished the day one stroke behind the individual medalist.
