Thompson, Morrison Named to Comeback Player of the Year Watch List

TULSA, Okla. – Tulsa football players Chris Thompson Jr. and Sevion Morrison have been named to the 2026 Comeback Player of the Year Award Watch List, it was announced Thursday by College Sports Communicators in association with The Associated Press and Fiesta Sports Foundation.
 
Thompson, a graduate linebacker, and Morrison, a graduate running back, are two of 94 college football student-athletes from 59 schools named to the preseason watch list. The Tulsa duo is among six players from the American Conference selected for the honor.
 
The Comeback Player of the Year Award has recognized college football student-athletes who have overcome injury, illness or other circumstances since its inception in 2018. At the conclusion of the season, a panel of college football writers, editors and sports information directors will select three student-athletes as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners. The honorees will be recognized at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
 
Thompson enters his third season with the Golden Hurricane. The Duncanville, Texas, native is expected to provide veteran leadership to the Tulsa defense and was recently voted by his teammates as one of five team captains for the 2026 season. He appeared in 12 games at Tulsa before missing the 2025 season because of injury.
 
Morrison enters the 2026 campaign as a veteran presence in the Golden Hurricane backfield. The Tulsa native and Edison High School product returned home to continue his collegiate career with the Golden Hurricane after previously playing at Kansas. He was one of five team captains voted on by his teammates for the 2026 season.
 
Tulsa opens the 2026 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, against Oklahoma State in the Gateway First Bank Turnpike Classic at H.A. Chapman Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
