An outstanding quarterback, Jim Finks was both an elusive runner and superb passer in the 1947 and `48 seasons … was the nation's second-leading passer in 1948, completing 53 percent of his passes for 1,363 yards and seven touchdowns … an 83-yard run against West Texas in 1947 was the third longest in Hurricane history … threw for 2,796 yards and 18 touchdowns during his career … was twice selected to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team in 1947 and 1948 … played professionally with the Pittsburgh Steelers for five years and later became a successful general manager for the Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints … was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame posthumously in 1995.
