The 1941 football began a streak that would become the first in college football as that team made Tulsa’s first New Year’s Day Bowl Game, playing in the Sun Bowl on January 1, 1942, beginning a string of five straight New Year’s Day Bowl Game appearances, the first school in history to accomplish that feat … Tulsa put together an overall record of 8-2, playing in the school’s first-ever bowl game and winning the school’s first bowl game with a 6-0 victory over Texas Tech in El Paso, Texas … Tulsa suffered a narrow 6-point loss against TCU to start the season and then put won seven straight, before falling to Arkansas in the regular season finale …in that 7-game winning streak, Tulsa allowed just six points per game, while averaging 26 points. … the Hurricane clinched the Missouri Valley Conference championship with a 20-6 win over Drake.
