D.J. Welte came to The University of Tulsa in February 2011 as the school's Director of Football Video Operations.
Welte was named the winner of the 2015-16 American Athletic Conference Video Coordinator of the Year award, as selected by the league’s video coordinators.
Before coming to Tulsa, Welte served four seasons (2007-10) as video and technology coordinator for the Ball State football program. In the 2008-09 academic year, he was selected as the Mid American Conference Video Coordinator of the Year. Previously, Welte served as the video coordinator at Louisiana Tech for one year (2006) and also spent one season at Arkansas State (2005).
Welte oversees all video needs for the Tulsa Football program. Welte and his student staff shoot and edit all practices and games and make them available for the coaches' and student athletes to review on the XOS Thunder HD in house editing system. He also coordinates all video exchanges for the Hurricane future opponents and produces weekly motivational highlight videos for team meetings.
In the summer of 2011, Welte oversaw a complete renovation for the Tulsa Football Video Department. The department went from a Standard Definition workflow to a High Definition workflow. Tulsa was one of the first 42 schools in the country to start shooting, editing, and reviewing game video and practice video in High Definition. Welte also implemented Hudl's cloud video viewing system so players and coaches can have access to practice, opponent scout, and game video from anywhere via the internet, iPhone, iPad, iTouch, Kindle Fire, and Android apps.
Welte has been involved in seven bowl games as a video coordinator, including the 2016 Miami Beach Bowl, 2015 Camping World Independence Bowl, 2012 AutoZone Liberty Bowl, 2011 Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl, all at Tulsa. His bowl experiences also have included the 2008 GMAC Bowl and 2008 International Bowl, both at Ball State, and with Arkansas State at the 2005 New Orleans Bowl.
He earned his bachelor's degree in radio and television production at Arkansas State University in 2005.
Welte and his wife, Elaine, have three daughters: Gretchen, Megan and Adalyn.
