Tom Ososkie has spent three different stints with The University of Tulsa football staff. He first served as an assistant coach from 1969-78, returning in 1991 as a part-time assistant coach and returned as director of scouting since 2008. Ososkie now handles special projects for the Hurricane football program.
During his first stint, Ososkie worked with the defensive ends, secondary, offensive line, running backs and quarterbacks. He was a member of the coaching staff for the 1976 Independence Bowl team in 1976, while being a part of four Missouri Valley Conference Championship teams – 1973, ’74, ’75 and ’76.
Following the 1978 season, which saw the Hurricane post a 9-2 record, Ososkie left coaching to take an Oil & Gas Management position, while continuing to remain close to the sport as a professional football scout.
Ososkie returned to Tulsa as a part-time assistant coach in 1991 and worked with the punters, while assisting with the quarterbacks and press box duties on game day. During his first two stints at Tulsa, he was involved with the development of over 30 players that went on to make NFL rosters.
After coaching at the high school level for a number of years, Ososkie returned to Tulsa for the 2008 season as a volunteer coach and began his work on a database scouting system for the Hurricane. He has been a part of seven Bowl games during his current stint at Tulsa.
Ososkie’s football experience runs deep as he worked with various NFL teams in the pro scouting department, including the Los Angeles Rams (1979), New Orleans Saints (1980), New England Patriots (1981-89) and New York Jets (1990).
In addition to his coaching on the college level and scouting on the professional level, Ososkie also coached and served as the General Manager of the American Football Association’s Oklahoma Thunder in 1982. He also spent the summer of 2004 as an assistant coach with the Tulsa Talons of the Arena II Football League, helping the Talons reach win the divisional title. Ososkie also had two separate stints coaching at Cascia Hall High School, from 1995-96 and from 1999 to 2008.
He was the head football coach at DeSales High School in Louisville, Kentucky, before his first stop at The University of Tulsa.
Ososkie has taught high school Algebra, Trigonometry, Statistics and Computer Science for over 20 years, and has also been an adjunct professor at The University of Tulsa, teaching College Algebra.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Detroit University and a master’s in Education from The University of Tulsa.
