These Tubby Smith coached teams compiled a two-year record 47-16 and made history by becoming the first and second Tulsa teams to reach the NCAA Sweet 16 … the 1993-94 team posted a 23-8 record and a 15-3 Missouri Valley Conference mark to finish first in the regular season … Tulsa also took No. 1-ranked Arkansas to the wire early in the season in a 83-91 overtime loss at the Convention Center … Tulsa lost in the semifinals of the MVC Tournament, but receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament …the Hurricane began the NCAA tournament as a No. 12 seed and faced #17-ranked and #5-seed UCLA in the first round … Tulsa led by more than 30 points in the game and ended with a 112-102 victory … in the second round, Tulsa faced #19-ranked and #4 seed Oklahoma State and the Hurricane avenged an early season 8-point loss to the Cowboys with a 82-80 victory … Tulsa advanced to the Sweet 16 but lost to eventual national champion Arkansas … in 1994-95, Tulsa posted a 24-8 mark and again placed first in the MVC with a 15-3 record, but lost to SIU in the MVC Championship game … with another at-large berth, Tulsa went to Albany New York for the NCAA Tournament … Tulsa won the first round game vs. Illinois, 68-62, and Old Dominion, 64-52, before falling in the round of 16 against the nation’s No. 7-ranked UMASS.
