A two-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection at center, Bob Hellinghausen began his career at Tulsa as a fullback … was a superb blocker on offense and a stalwart linebacker on defense … on his first offensive play for Tulsa, he scored on a three-yard touchdown run against the Oklahoma A&M Aggies … was a workhorse for the Golden Hurricane, logging 382 minutes during the 1945 season, the same year he led the team in interceptions with four pickoffs for 85 return yards … played on the Sugar Bowl, Orange Bowl and Oil Bowl teams … was selected Defensive Player of the Game in the Oil Bowl.
