Generally accepted as the man who played the most vital role in rebuilding Tulsa's basketball program, Clarence Iba compiled 137 victories in 11 years as head coach … he inherited a team that went 4-20, and led the Golden Hurricane to a 12-11 record his first season … brought national acclaim to TU when his 1953 team became the school's first to receive a postseason tournament invitation with a berth in the NIT … led the 1955 squad to a 21-7 record, Missouri Valley Conference Championship and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament … was recognized as the MVC Coach of the Year in 1955 … perhaps his biggest win came on Feb. 7, 1952, when Tulsa defeated Oklahoma A&M, coached by his legendary brother Henry Iba, 46-33.
