Fred Smith became Tulsa’s career receiving leader in 1950, and held the top-ranked spot on the school’s all-time receiving list until the 1962 season … had 76 receptions for 1,009 yards with nine touchdowns in his career … led the Hurricane in receiving for two consecutive seasons –– 1949 and 1950 … had 31 receptions for 441 yards and five touchdowns in 1949, while catching 34 passes for 425 yards and four touchdowns in 1950 … earned all-Missouri Valley Conference honors in 1950 and was an honorable mention All-America selection as a senior.
