A long hitter and accurate iron player for the Golden Hurricane, James Unruh captained the Tulsa golf team in 1948, ‘49, and '50 … led Tulsa to a second place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference in 1949 … won 33 matches in his career, including wins over Don January and Bo Winninger of Oklahoma A&M, and NCAA champion Jack Vickers of Oklahoma … continued his golf career after college by winning the city championship six times … was a three-time city Four-Ball champion, and two-time winner and four-time runner-up at the Oklahoma State Senior Championship … served as coach of the TU golf program from 1973-75.
