A halfback with both power and speed, J.R. Boone was Tulsa’s leading rusher in 1947 with 661 yards on 125 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per carry … also led the team in scoring with 61 points and kickoff returns with 270 yards on eight returns for a 33.8 average his senior season … he not only lettered in football four times, but also three times in basketball and once each in baseball and track.
