Steve Gage was a versatile quarterback who completed his career ranked among the school's top-10 for total offense with 5,450 yards … rushed for 2,096 yards, passed for 3,354 yards, scored 182 points and 30 touchdowns, and threw for 19 TDs … was named the 1985 United Press International Offensive Player of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference, the same year he won first-team all-conference merits … teamed with running back Gordon Brown to set an NCAA record for each gaining over 200 yards in a single game with 206 yards vs. Wichita State in 1985 … completed the 1985 season second in the nation in scoring with 102 points … was named the MVC Newcomer of the Year in 1983.
