Orlando "Tubby" Smith

Tubby Smith led Tulsa basketball to where the program had never been before when the Hurricane advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in 1994. In four seasons, his teams posted a 74-43 record, won two conference titles and made two NCAA tournament appearances. He was twice named the Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year after leading his final two teams to an overall 47-16 record for a .746 winning percentage and a 30-6 league mark. In the 1994 NCAA Tournament, Tulsa defeated #17 UCLA in dominating fashion 112-102 and followed that up with an 82-80 win over #19 Oklahoma State to advance to the school’s first-ever Sweet 16. A year later, Tulsa defeated Illinois and Old Dominion to advance to its second straight Sweet 16. Smith went on to lead his 1998 Kentucky team to the NCAA Championship.
