Shelton Provides Sixth Man Punch; Earns All-WAC Honors

Although he is Tulsa's sixth man, coming off the bench in 33 of Tulsa's
35 games, junior transfer David Shelton leads the
Hurricane in scoring with a 14.0 average in just
22.2 minutes, sixth most on the team.
? The 6-6 forward from
Cincinnati, Ohio, was an all-WAC second team
selection while also being named to the WAC's
all-newcomer team. He was also selected to the
WAC's all-tournament team.
? Shelton has provided solid production off
the bench for the Hurricane. He started two games
-- Delaware State and Boston College -- before
returning to his sixth man role against UNC
Charlotte. Shelton also averages 4.6 rebounds,
while shooting .487 from the field, .366 from
three-point range and .771 from the free throw
line. Shelton has 490 points on the season and is
the 40th player in school history to join the
400-Point Club for a single season. With 10 more
points, Shelton will become just the 15th player
to join the 500-Point Club in school history.
? In two NCAA
Tournament games, Shelton has averaged 17.5
points and 6.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes of
playing time.
? He has scored in
double-figures in 29 games this season, the most
for any TU player. He has led Tulsa in scoring 10
times and has a team-high seven 20-point scoring
games. He tied his career-high with 24 points
against TCU (3-10-00) in the semifinals of the
WAC Tournament, while also adding 10 rebounds and
tying a career-high with 4 steals. Initially,
Shelton had a career-best 24 points on 9-of-13
from the field, and added 5 rebounds in just 22
minutes against TCU (2-5-00).
? Shelton's other
20-point scoring games include -- 22 points and 9
rebounds in 28 minutes against SW Missouri State,
20 points in the first meeting against TCU, 21
points and 8 rebounds in 27 minutes vs. UTEP, 20

including back-to-back double-digits in the WAC
