TU Women Suffers 2-1 Overtime Loss to Oral Roberts

Tulsa, Oklahoma - The Tulsa women's soccer team allowed Oral Roberts one goal in the final five minutes of regulation and one with just under a minute gone by in overtime and fell to the Golden Eagles, 2-1, at McAuliffe Field.
Tulsa (3-2-1) struck first when senior Julie Davidson scored the games first goal off a blast from 25 yards out at the 24:06 minute mark to give the Hurricane a 1-0 lead. Fellow classmate Kelly Noonan collected the assist on Davidson's goal.
Tulsa's 1-0 advantage was the difference for much of the game. But Oral Roberts (6-2) controlled much of the second half, outshooting TU 13-5. Golden Hurricane freshman goalkeeper Pam Devore recorded a stellar night in goal. Devore kept the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard by turning away 12 shots-on-goal. She finished with 13 saves on the night, just two shy of the school record of 15 set by Melissa Mitchell (1994-97) against Texas.
Oral Roberts finally got past Devore with just under four minutes remaining in the game. ORU's Kari Shoemaker found the back of the net on a low crossing shot from right to left to tie the game at 1-1. With its newfound momentum, the Golden Eagles attempted several shots in the final minutes of the game, but came up empty. And for the second straight year, the game went into overtime.
As the two teams settled into overtime, Tulsa fouled an Oral Roberts player inside the goalkeeper's box just :46 into the extra period to give the Golden Eagles a penalty kick.
Shoemaker looked to end the game on the penalty kick, but it was Devore who came up big again as she made an outstanding deflection of Shoemaker's attempt away from the goal. But as the players untangled in front of the net, the ball came right to the foot of Jodi Kirkhuff who immediately nailed the game-winner at 90:46.
Tulsa's loss to Oral Roberts is the first in the 11-game series, which began in 1988. The Hurricane is now 9-1-1 against its cross-town rival.
