Box Score

Tulsa, Oklahoma - Sophomore Marcie Ferguson scored one goal in each half and junior Melissa McCormick added another score to lift Tulsa to a 3-2 victory over Arkansas at Lady `Back Soccer Field in Fayetteville, Ark.

Tulsa (5-3-1) was forced to play without the services of two starters, including senior Kelly Noonan and freshman Staci Morgan. Noonan was sidelined with a leg injury, while was Morgan was suffering from a viral infection. Ferguson, along with sophomore Liz Benoist was each thrusted into their first starting assignment this season.

TU bolted out of the gates and tallied two goals in the first 21 minutes of play to lead 2-0. McCormick broke the scoreless tie at the 15:31 minute mark when she headed in freshman Katie Schlecht's wide crossing shot from the right side to give the Hurricane a quick 1-0 advantage. Ferguson increased TU's lead to 2-0 when she nailed a shot off a rebound from the crossbar into the bottom left side of the net at 21:33.

Arkansas (2-6-2) scored its first first-half goal of the season at 37:50 when Julie Williford collected a corner kick in a scuffle in front of the TU net and scored to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Lady Razorbacks dominated the second half, outshooting Tulsa 12-6, and also held a 7-0 advantage on corner kicks. But with Arkansas threatening to tie the game, Ferguson once again came through in the clutch. McCormick's shot from the left side appeared to be in the grasp of Arkansas goalkeeper Lindsay Haywood. But the ball squirted free and Ferguson, charging hard from the right side, was there to collect the carom and score the easy goal at the 57:58 minute mark to give the Hurricane a 3-1 lead.

But TU's two-goal advantage didn't last long. Arkansas came right back and pulled to within one goal when Megan Burke's shot from the top of the goalkeeper's box sailed above the outstretched hands of TU freshman goalkeeper Pam Devore at 59:57.

Arkansas continued to push Tulsa for the remaining 30 minutes of play, but the Hurricane turned back the Lady Razorbacks offensive push. With the win, TU improved its record in the overall series to 14-4-1.
