Matthews Named WAC Runner of the Week

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa cross country runner Owain Matthews has been named the Western Athletic Conference Male Runner of the Week for the week of Oct. 8-14. This is the second time Matthews has earned WAC Runner of the Week honors.

A native of Luton, England, Matthews finished fourth in a field of 37 runners at the ORU Oklahoma Classic presented by Subway in Tulsa, Okla., on Saturday. The sophomore, in only his second race of the season helped lead the Golden Hurricane to a second place finish in the five-team field. Matthews finished with a team season-best time of 25:03 over the five-mile course. His time is the second best time for an 8,000-meter course in the WAC this season.
