Women's Cross Country Team Wins ORU Oklahoma Classic

Tulsa, Okla.- - The University of Tulsa women's cross country team won the ORU Oklahoma Classic presented by Subway, Saturday afternoon on the campus of ORU. The Golden Hurricane utilized four top-10 finishers for 28 points, nine point better than second place ORU. The men's squad finished second behind Missouri Southern State by one point.
Senior Charlotte Sanderson finished as the top collegian with a time of 17:47.01. She would have set a course record by over 10-seconds. However, former TU teammate Fride Vullum won the event with a record setting time of 17:29.25. Junior Sarah Haskins' time of 18:16.04 placed her fourth, while Debbie Cardenas (18:42.68) and Natalie Rasmussen (18:46.73) finished eighth and ninth respectively.
On the men's side, TU recorded 35 points behind four top-10 finishers of their own. However, MSSC also had four top-10 finishers and recorded 34 points for the team trophy.
Transfer Owain Matthews led the way for the Hurricane for the second straight meet with his second consecutive fourth place finish in a time of 25:03.37. Andy Norman finished fifth for TU with a time of 25:14.21, while Jared Christianson finished only five seconds back (25:19.72) in sixth place. Senior Brian Erwin was the ninth collegiate finisher with a time of 25:47.89.
