Cross Country Teams Complete Seasons at Midwest Regionals

Carbondale, Ill. - Both of The University of Tulsa cross country teams concluded their seasons as the 2001 Midwest Regionals in Carbondale, Ill., on Saturday. The women's team finished ninth in the 23-team field, while the men finished 19th out of 24 teams.
Senior Charlotte Sanderson led the Hurricane women with a ninth place finish out of 161 runners in a time of 21:26.7. Sanderson became only the second TU female to finish in the top-10 of a regional. Former Hurricane star, Fride Vullum finished fifth in 1998 for the top spot.
Junior Sarah Haskins finished 24th with a time of 22:01, while freshman Natalie Rasmussen finished 45th in a time of 22:24.5. Other TU finishers included Debbie Cardenas at 60th in a time of 22:52.7, Monica Joannes at 93rd with a time of 23:35.9, April Johnson at 128th in a time of 24:44.4.
Transfer Andy Norman led the Hurricane men with a 39th place finish in the 165 runner field with a time of 31:52.0. Sophomore Owain Matthews finished 83rd with a time of 32:52.3. Other TU finishers include: Brian Erwin at 100th in a time of 33:27.3, Blake Carpenter at 104th in a time of 33:36.3, Jared Christianson at 113th in a time of 33:58.3, Ben Orozco in 115th in a time of 34:00.1, Derek Smith in 125th with a time of 34:17.5.
