TU Completes Regular Season With Fifth-Place WAC Finish:
Tulsa completed the 2001 campaign with a fifth-place finish in the WAC. Last week, the Hurricane captured a 2-1 overtime victory over Nevada at home, but fell to Boise State, 3-1, at home in the season finale. In six seasons as a WAC member, Tulsa has posted one second-place finish (2000), three third-place finishes (1996-98) and TU completed the 1999 campaign in seventh-place.
Tulsa's WAC Tournament History:
The Golden Hurricane is making its fifth appearance in the WAC Tournament in 2001. Since Tulsa's first season as a conference member in 1996, the Hurricane has qualified for the postseason tournament in five (1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001) of six seasons. Tulsa advanced to the championship game last season and played in the semifinals in 1997. TU has an overall record of 2-4 in postseason play. Last season, Tulsa defeated Fresno State, 2-1 in double overtime in Fresno, Calif., before falling to San Jose State, 3-1, in the title match.
McCormick Reaches Second-Place among TU's Assists Leaders, Sixth Place on All-Time Scoring List:
Melissa McCormick (Omaha, Neb.) moved into second-place on Tulsa's career assists list with her assist vs. Nevada. With 18 career assists, McCormick is just one shy of tying former TU standout Shari Rozmus' (1988-91) school record of 19 assists. McCormick ranks sixth on the school's career scoring list with 72 points and seventh on the career goals list with 27. This season, she leads the team in goals (9), assists (5), points (23) and game-winning goals (4). McCormick has scored nine game-winning goals over the last two seasons.
McNally Quietly Having Stellar Season:
In her first season at Tulsa, Kim McNally has quietly put together a stellar freshman campaign. She has recorded a goal in six of TU's last eight games and a total eight out of the last 12 contests. She is second on the team in goals (8), scoring (16 points) and game-winning goals (2). McNally leads all WAC freshmen in goals, goals per game (0.47) and is tied for second in points.
Fahrig Reaches Second on TU's Single-Season Saves List:
Freshman goalkeeper Abby Fahrig (St. Charles, Mo.) has collected 110 saves this season and ranks second on TU's single-season saves chart. She is 10 short of catching Liz Fowler's school record mark of 120 set in 1989. She ranks fifth among TU's goalkeepers for career saves.
Player Notes:
Sophomore Staci Morgan (Owasso, Okla.) has produced the best season of her two-year career at Tulsa with four goals and four assists for 12 points. She ranks second on the team in all three categories and has one game-winning goal this season.
Sophomore Keely Flynn (Tulsa, Okla.) has earned two of her three assists this season on corner kicks that resulted in goals. Flynn's most recent assist came against Nevada in overtime when freshman Holly Lorman (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) headed in Flynn's corner kick for the game-winner. Against Oral Roberts, Flynn's free kick from around the same area resulted in TU's first goal of the game while her corner kick on the same side also completed a score for the Hurricane.
Team Notes:
Five of Tulsa's six leading scorers this season are either freshmen or sophomores. Behind leading scorer, senior Melissa McCormick, are freshman Kim McNally, sophomore Staci Morgan, freshman Holly Lorman and sophomore Emily Trost (Ellisville, Mo.). A total of nine freshmen or sophomores have started nine of more games in 2001.
