Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Women's Soccer Coach Damon Gore announced today the signing of five players to National Letters-of-Intent. The newcomers for the 2001 season are Alexis Arment (Columbia, Mo.), Lily Defee (Oklahoma City), Monica Karriker (Norman), Holly Lorman (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada) and Kim McNally (Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada).
Arment is a 5-8 defender from Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo., which is the same high school that produced current Tulsa sophomore standout Julie Twellman. During her freshman and sophomore seasons, she accounted for 36 goals and 30 assists for 102 points. As a sophomore in 1999, she earned honorable mention all-state honors and was selected to the all-Central Region team. She also garnered all-district and all-conference first-team merits. During her freshman season of 1998, she was tabbed to the all-state second team and to the all-conference first team. She has played on the Carrera Soccer Club team for the past three years.
"Alexis is a fantastic athlete who has great size and speed," Gore said. "We expect her to make an immediate impact in our midfield."
Defee, a 5-7 defender, comes to Tulsa from Oklahoma City's (Okla.) Northwest Classen High School where she was a three-year letterwinner. As a junior, she was selected to the all-city second team. Last year, she led her club team, the Royals `82, to a state championship and to the region semifinals.
"Lily is a very tenacious and intense player who can play many different roles on the field," Gore said.
A 5-8 defender from Norman (Okla.) High School, Karriker is a two-time all-conference performer and has also been named to the all-district team. A three-year letterwinner, she led her team to two state class 5A runner-up finishes over the last three seasons. She led her club team, the Fury `83 Red Club, to three state open championships.
"Along with her good physical size, Monica has great poise and vision on the field. I expect her to compete for a starting spot this fall," Gore said.
Lorman, a 5-4 forward/midfielder from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, is a member of the Canadian U18 National Pool. In her first season on the national team, Lorman was named the Saskatchewan Youth Player of the Year and she also received rookie MVP honors while serving as team captain.
"Holly is a very talented player. She can play many positions and will excel at any of them," Gore said.
McNally is a 5-4 forward from Burnaby Central High School in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada. A member of the Canadian U19 National Team, McNally was voted team MVP and received the Top Goal Scorer Award.
"Kim is a pure forward who possesses excellent speed, quick feet and is very strong with her back to the goal. She should not only be one of our top scoring threats this fall, but will set up many goals for us as well," Gore said.
