Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa head women's soccer coach Damon Gore announced today the appointment of Kerry Shubert as an assistant coach for the Golden Hurricane.
Shubert comes to Tulsa after spending the last eight years at Edmond (Okla.) Sante Fe High School where he served as the head soccer coach. During his tenure, he led the Santa Fe boy's team to the 1996 state championship and was named the Oklahoma High School Soccer Coach of the Year that same season. For the past four years, Shubert has directed the Royals Girls Club Team.
A member of the Oklahoma State Olympic Development Program for the last eight years and the ODP regional staff the past two years, Shubert coached the first girls club team from Oklahoma to advance to the national tournament in 1996. In all, he has won six state championships in club soccer.
Prior to coaching at Edmond Santa Fe, Shubert played semi-professional soccer for the Oklahoma City Warriors and Spirit from 1992-95. Before that, Shubert was a four-year starter and two-year captain on the Oklahoma Christian University men's soccer team.
Shubert, 31, earned his bachelor's degree in education with a minor in professional education from OCU in 1992. He is a 1987 graduate of Broken Arrow High School.
"We are very lucky to attract a coach of Kerry's caliber," Gore said. "He has great recruiting ties and has proven to be one of the top club coaches in the region. I could not have found a better fit for our program and The University of Tulsa."
