Stillwater, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa men's golf team will begin its trek to the NCAA Championship when the Golden Hurricane tees off this week at the NCAA Central Regional in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

Regional competition is scheduled for Thursday-Saturday, May 17-19, at the Karsten Creek Golf Course. The Hurricane will compete with 27 other teams at the Central Regional. The East region will be played in Williamsburg, Virginia, and the West region is played in Corvallis, Oregon.

Tulsa has not advanced past the regional tournament in each of the past five years. The Hurricane placed 16th at last year's regional qualifying event. In Tulsa's last appearance at the NCAA Championships in 1995 the Hurricane finished in 11th place.

Tulsa is coming off a first-place finish at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Oklahoma last weekend. The Hurricane shot a final round one-under par 279 and outdistanced second-place Oklahoma State by two strokes with a 54-hole total of eight-over par 848.

The Hurricane is led by freshman David Inglis, who has finished among the top-20 in all 13 tournaments this year. Inglis, who has a team-leading 71.9 stroke average, was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, and was the individual medalist at the WAC Championships earlier this month.

Inglis gets a lot of help from fellow freshmen Logan Goettsch, who has posted a 73.5 stroke average, and Chris Noel, with a 74.8 stroke average. In addition, junior Kevin Henry and sophomore Billy Lowry have been steady for the Hurricane. On Monday, Henry was the low qualifier at the U.S. Open local qualifying event at Tulsa Country Club. He still has one qualifying event remaining in order to make the U.S. Open field.

Henry and Lowry placed in a tie for seventh-place at Tulsa's last tournament, The Maxwell. On the year, Henry has finished among the top-20 six times and has a 74.5 stroke average, while Lowry, a transfer from Oklahoma State, has a 75.2 stroke average with four top-20 performances.

Ten teams and the top two individuals from the three regional tournaments will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship, May 30-June 2, at the Duke University Golf Club.
