Cross Country Teams Finish Second at the Fayetteville Invitational

Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Tulsa women's cross country team utilized having four runners finishing in the top-10 to secure second place in the team standings at the Fayetteville Invitational at the Agri Cross Country Course in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday.

Senior Charlotte Sanderson led the way for Tulsa with a 11:04.97 time on the 3,200-meter course. Senior Debbie Cardenas returned to her sophomore form finishing fifth overall in the 26-runner race. She sat out all of the 2000 season with an injury. Junior Sarah Haskins and freshman Natalie Rasmussen round out TU's top-10 finishers with times of 11:23.67 and 11:27.14, respectively. Sophomore Monica Joannes was TU fifth scoring runner with a 14th place finish with a time of 12:00.57.

The 12th-ranked Lady Razorbacks of Arkansas won the team title with 25 points, followed by TU with 33 points.

The Razorbacks controlled the men's race with eight runners finishing in the top-10. The defending national champions recorded 16 points, while the Golden Hurricane finished with 57 points in second points.

Sophomore Justin Rempel was TU's lone runner in the top-10 with a ninth-place finish in a time of 21:03.01.

Both the Hurricane men and women will travel to Waco, Texas for their next meets. Tulsa will take part of the Baylor Invitational on Sept. 22.
