Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa Head Women's Soccer Coach Damon Gore announced today the signing of six players to National Letters-of-Intent and one National Merit Scholar. The seven newcomers include Danielle Fauteux (Kamloops, B.C., Canada), Gina Gaston (Norman, Okla.), Jamie German (Owasso, Okla.), Kaia Knutson (Fargo, N.D.), Ashley Rickner (Broken Arrow, Okla.), Carrie Schnarre (Lake St. Louis, Mo.) and Kelly Wilson (Highland Village, Texas).
Fauteux is a 5-7 forward from New Westminster High School in Kamloops, B.C., Canada. In 2001, she was a member of the Canadian National Pool and was named to the all-star first team. She was her league's top goal scorer in 2000.
"Danielle is a blue-collar type forward who plays with great intensity and is very physical," Gore said. "I am very confident she will give our team a new dimension up front."
Gaston, a 5-7 defender from Norman (Okla.) High School, is a member of the Oklahoma Olympic Development Program (ODP) and was an all-district performer as a junior. She has led her club team, the Norman Fury, to three state championships.
"Gina is one of the fastest players in the class we recruited this year. She is an excellent defender who can physically match-up with anyone I've seen in the college game," Gore said.
German is a 5-7 center midfielder from nearby Owasso (Okla.) High School. She is U16 National Pool player and member of the ODP Region III pool and state team. As a junior she was named to the all-conference and all-region team while serving as a captain for OHS.
"Jamie is a very talented midfielder with excellent field vision. She has a strong attacking mentality and I expect her to have an immediate impact not only on our team, but on the college level as well," Gore said.
Knutson, a 5-5 forward from Fargo (N.D.) South High School, is a member of the North Dakota ODP and regional camp. As a junior, she was a first-team all-state performer and led her team to a state cup championship. She is a National Merit Scholar.
"Kaia is one of the best soccer players to come out of North Dakota. She has excellent speed and technical ability. We expect her to push for playing time at wide-midfield," Gore said.
Rickner, a 5-7 midfielder/sweeper, hails from nearby Broken Arrow (Okla.) High School. A member of the Oklahoma ODP, she has led her club team, the Hurricane FC, to five state championships.
"Ashley is one of the top players in Oklahoma. She is typically a defensive player who has been moved to a more attacking role. This change has really helped develop her game and make her a more versatile player. I expect Ashley will make an immediate impact either as a defender or midfielder," Gore said.
Schnarre is a 5-7 defender from St. Joseph's Academy in St. Louis, Mo. She is a member of the Missouri ODP state team and regional camp. She led her club team, J.B. Marine, to two state championships and was the team's second leading scorer.
"Carrie is a terrific defender who can play both in the back and also in the midfield area. She is an excellent athlete with a strong tactical sense," Gore said.
Wilson, a 5-7 goalkeeper Marcus High School, is a member of the Texas ODP state team and Region III squad. She led her club team, the Defeaters, to a 2001 state and regional championship and to the finals of the Washington Area Girls Tournament.
"Kelly, who was the top goalkeeper in the region, was very heavily recruited and I'm very happy we could attract her to The University of Tulsa. I expect Kelly to have a fantastic college career at TU," Gore said.
"This is an excellent recruiting class. Each of these players will compete for playing time during their freshmen year. This class is also extremely talented on the field and in the classroom. I am very proud to have this group join our program and The University of Tulsa," Gore said.
